What to Look For

  • USB-A and USB-C output — look for both, with USB-C PD output for faster charging of modern devices.
  • Durability and weather resistance — emergency gear gets used in tough conditions. Look for panels rated for rain and dust.
  • Efficiency in indirect light — all solar panels produce less power in clouds or shade. The best panels maintain reasonable output in lower light.

What to Avoid

  • Tiny decorative panels (under 5W) — they're largely useless for anything meaningful
  • Expecting to run large appliances from a portable solar panel — not realistic
